MISSION AND VISION

OUR APPROACH TO HEALTH IMPACT

Management Sciences for Health (MSH) works shoulder-to-shoulder with countries and communities to save lives and improve the health of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people by building strong, resilient, sustainable health systems. Together, we seek to achieve universal health coverage—equitable, affordable access to high-quality health services for all who need them—even in fragile, post-crisis settings. For more than 45 years in 150 countries, MSH has partnered with governments, civil society, the private sector, and thousands of health workers on locally-led solutions that expand access to medicines and services, improve quality of care, help prevent and control epidemics, support inspiring leadership and transparent governance, and foster informed, empowered, and healthier communities.

WE BELIEVE

  • Effective local leaders and local institutions create lasting health impact.
  • Health is a human right, realized progressively through access to health care for all and healthy living conditions.
  • Healthy people and communities contribute to economic vitality and political stability.
  • Better evidence to scale up proven methods and technologies will achieve widespread health impact.

These values unite MSH as a global community dedicated to our mission. We hold ourselves accountable to live up to these values in our daily work.

THE ACCESSIBLE CONTINUUM OF CARE AND ESSENTIAL SERVICES SUSTAINED (ACCESS) ACTIVITY

Through the ACCESS program, the US Government continues its support to the Government of Madagascar in accelerating sustainable health impacts for the nearly 16 million Malagasy people and strengthen the Ministry of Public Health’s stewardship of the health sector.

Launched in April 2019, the ACCESS program is increasing the availability of quality health services, improving health infrastructure, strengthening the capacity of the health system, and promoting healthy behaviors among Malagasy communities. The MSH-led activity is a five-year, $90 million health system strengthening program that builds upon the work of its predecessor program, the USAID Mikolo project.

In close partnership with the Government of Madagascar and its local partners, MSH is conducting activities in 10 regions (Atsinanana, Vatovavy Fitovinany, Atsimo Andrefana, Menabe, Melaky, Boeny, Sofia, Diana, Sava, and Analanjirofo) to achieve three main objectives:

1) Quality health services are sustainably available and accessible to all Malagasy communes in the targeted regions

2) Health systems function effectively to support quality health service delivery

3) The Malagasy people sustainably adopt healthy behaviors and social norms

The ACCESS program provides family planning and reproductive health services in the regions of Vakinakaratra, Amoron’i Mania, and Haute Matsiatra.
