London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM)
LSHTM is one of the world's leading public health universities. Founded in 1899, LSHTM has two sites in the Bloomsbury area of London and units in Gambia and Uganda. Originally set up to serve a colonial mission, today LSHTM is a global network of specialist centers and partners working together to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice. Research income has grown to more than £190 million per year from national and international funding sources, including UK government and research councils, the European Union, the Wellcome Trust, the Gates Foundation and other philanthropic sources.
With its international presence and collaborative ethos, LSHTM is uniquely placed to help shape health policy and translate research findings into tangible impact to meet today’s challenges. LSHTM was at the forefront of informing the UK and global response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and before that during the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The school has longstanding and extensive partnerships, especially in low and middle-income countries, and aims to ensure that collaborative work not only contributes to its mission and extends its impact, but also supports capacity strengthening and the development of research and public health leaders.
