UCSF is collaborating with PRONTO International on an innovative solution to improve maternal and neonatal health by strengthening nurse mentoring programs implemented by partners in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, India. Next steps are to co-develop a sustainability and transition framework for simulation and team training to India state-based ownership and to explore introduction of simulation in pre-service settings. Simulation and team training were added to the mentoring curriculum in 350+ primary healthcare facilities and 25 district hospitals in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, evidence suggests a 22.5% reduction in neonatal mortality in Bihar, India, due to the overall nurse- mentoring intervention. Four separate analyses demonstrated improved uptake of evidence-based practices linked to PRONTO’s simulation and team training program.
