Tiny Hats for Tiny Babies
The Tiny Hats for Tiny Babies campaign was launched to build awareness of the epidemic of preterm birth. The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Global Maternal Newborn at the Institute for Global Health Sciences partnered with Warm Up America!, a nonprofit organization dedicated to giving people in need handmade blankets, hats, scarves, etc. by a global community of volunteer knitters and crocheters to launch the campaign. In the three years that the program collected donated tiny hats, the group has received more than 50,000 hats and has been distributing them across SubSaharan Africa, India, Latin America and in the US.

- Warm Up America!
-
Warm Up America! has warmed peoples’ lives since 1991. It started in a small Wisconsin town with neighbors knitting and crocheting afghans for neighbors in need. Thanks to the creativity of founder Evie Rosen who came up with the idea of having volunteers knit or crochet small sections and then others join them together, the idea quickly caught on. Today Warm Up America! distributes warm afghans, caps and other items to tens of thousands of people, thanks to the generosity of knitters and crocheters around the country.

This hat is a symbol of how something so simple can transform a life.
- We believe that we can end preventable maternal and neonatal mortality if we:
-
1. Work with women to strengthen the health systems that serve them across their reproductive life from preconception, to pregnancy, through labor and delivery, and into the postnatal period.
2. Better understand how to take all the interventions and approaches that we know work and implement them more efficiently.
3. Develop new tools, technologies, and approaches and bring them to the most vulnerable populations in the world.
4. Advocate for women and children everywhere to make them priorities on every national agenda
