Frameworks & Models

Sustainable Development Goals:

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) lay out a series of global goals to achieve equitable sustainable development. SDG3 relates to health, and there are sub-goals specific to maternal and neonatal mortality targets. These are:

  • 3.1: By 2030, reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100,000 live births.
  • 3.2: By 2030, end preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age, with all countries aiming to reduce neonatal mortality to at least as low as 12 per 1,000 live births and under-5 mortality to at least as low as 25 per 1,000 live births.

Every Woman Every Child Global Strategy for Women's, Children's and Adolescents' Health:

Every Woman Every Child has outlined a Global Strategy for Women's, Children's and Adolescents' Health. Their monitoring framework seeks to unify donors and governments through transparent commitments and shared goals and action plans. It aims to unify maternal-child issues in a single framework, and sees other initiatives like the Every Newborn Action Plan and the FP2020 Commitments as supporting initiatives.
